Andean berry (Vaccinium meridonale Sw) is a common ingredient for wine. A study, published in Journal of Medicinal Plants Research, showed that dealcoholized Andean berry wine can be used for the prevention and treatment of cancer.They determined this by looking into the antioxidant and anti-proliferative activity of Andean berry wine.
Results of the study show that the different Andean berry wines all exhibited antioxidant activity. In addition to this, dealcoholized wine also inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells. These results suggest that dealcoholized Andean berry wine has potential in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
