Dietary fiber dramatically reduces the risk of ovarian cancer

Researchers from Qingdao University in China find that consuming foods rich in dietary fiber may help lower the risk of ovarian cancer. They reached this conclusion after conducting a meta-analysis on the available scientific literature on the link between dietary fiber intake and ovarian cancer risk.

  • Existing evidence on the link between dietary fiber consumption and risk of ovarian cancer is inconsistent.
  • So, Chinese researchers conducted a meta-analysis and hypothesized that consumption of dietary fiber might be linked to a reduced risk of ovarian cancer.
  • To test this hypothesis, they gathered existing studies that explored the association.
  • They gathered 19 studies, which involved 567, 742 participants.
  • Based on the data that were gathered, there was an association between dietary fiber consumption and risk of ovarian cancer.
  • They found that for every 5-gram (g) increase in dietary fiber intake per day, the risk of ovarian cancer was reduced by three percent.

These findings, which were published in the journal Nutrition Research, suggest that dietary fiber intake is associated with a lower risk of ovarian cancer.
